To stimulate life, leaving it free, however, to unfold itself, that is the first duty of the educator.
My name is Sam Streak. I am a single mom of a gorgeous son, Benjamin and live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I am privileged to be the founding principal of The Port Elizabeth Montessori School and the director of training with Integral Montessori.
I began my Montessori journey way back in 1990 when I first observed in a Montessori classroom in Miami, Florida, USA and totally fell in love with this amazing approach to education and life. I have done little else since then, opening my own school in January 1995 with just me and 7 children. The school has grown into an amazing learning community catering for over 185 children aged between 18 months and 13 years old. It is a dynamic and diversity community with incredible adults (both parents and teachers) contributing to the happiness of the children.
This blog has emerged from requests by many people to start writing more often about the things we experience each day, and to offer another perspective on issues related to Montessori education, parenting, engagement and offering another view that may help create more thought, discussion and dialogue.
It is but a perspective, a view through the lens of one person – not intended to be the answer to anything but hopefully a perspective that at least encourages questions. Please feel free to share these questions so that our connections can be deepened and our lenses widened.
